Cyber-Cop is Mission Viejo’s new Top Cop

Lieutenant Quyen Vuong, a 20-year law enforcement veteran, is the City of Mission Viejo’s new Chief of Police Services.

Lt. Vuong, who simply goes by “Q,” has returned to familiar territory, having worked as a deputy and School Resource Officer (SRO) in town for 5 years. He comes to the Chief of Police post with a wealth of experience under his belt. In his last role, he served in the Sheriff’s custody and court operations command where he managed a staff of more than 200 employees.

He is also well-known throughout the county, having been dubbed “Cyber-Cop” in 2011 by the Orange County Register as well as earning the Sheriff’s Medal of Merit for creating the Text-a-Tip program while serving as Mission Viejo’s SRO. His outstanding work also earned him the department’s Gold Star Award, Deputy of the Year award and other accolades.

Lt. Vuong says he is proud to be the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s first person of Vietnamese descent to hold the rank of lieutenant. Born in Vietnam, Lt. Vuong’s family fled the country in 1978 and lived in a refugee camp in Malaysia for two years before a Utah resident helped them move to the United States.

Today, Lt. Vuong enjoys spending time with his wife of 12 years, Amy, and their four children – two boys and two girls.

Just after starting his role here, Lt. Vuong, who calls himself a “tech nerd,” took to social media to introduce himself to residents.

“For over 5 years, I had the privilege to serve Mission Viejo as a patrol deputy and SRO, and I am very excited for this opportunity to return,” he said. “I am happy to announce that Mission Viejo Police Services (MVPS) is now using Nextdoor to share information with our residents about what is happening in the community. I look forward to meeting everyone at neighborhood watch meetings, community events and throughout the City.”

Am looking forward to having an opportunity to meet you. Perhaps at a "Coffee with a Cop" event. Good luck on your new position. gs

Welcome to MV; a great city & a great community. Look forward to meeting with you later this week. All the best.
