Council Member Brian Goodell

Brian Goodell moved to Mission Viejo in 1968 with his parents and sister from northern California. He is a graduate of Mission Viejo High School and UCLA. Brian served as a Commissioner on the City of Mission Viejo Community Services Commission from 2015-2016.

Brian was one of the original members of the Mission Viejo Nadadores and he was the first Olympic gold medalist from the team when he won both the 1500-meter and 400-meter freestyle swimming events, both in world record time, at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal.

During his swimming career Brian set 15 World and American records and won 19 US National and NCAA titles. He was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame, the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame, The Orange County Sports Hall of Fame and the Saddleback Valley Unified Scholl District Hall of Fame; and he was awarded the nation’s highest civilian honor, the United States Congressional Gold Medal by President Carter as a member of the 1980 US Olympic Team that boycotted the Moscow Olympics after the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan.

Brian learned to apply the championship traits he developed in sport to his successful real estate development and sales career, including developing Rancho Santa Margarita and other master-planned communities and several million square feet of industrial distribution centers, hotels and privately funded and operated prisons, and assisting home buyers and sellers for over 30 years. Brian also consults with property owners of new development projects and other businesses throughout the country.

Brian and Vicki raised three sons who also graduated from Mission Viejo High School as well as local universities, who live nearby.
